Had RSS not supported Modi, Vajpayee would have kicked him out. As it was, it was a difficult compromise with lots of leaders like Advani prevailing over Vajpayee to avoid action which could damage the party. Look at the slimy way Modi is responding to Vajpayee. At this point of time he was an Advani supporter.
