Let us make a small change in the above comments. Client A builds a villa and awards a contract to XYZ. It is not uncommon that XYZ checks up with the client A to get some reference about sub-contractors known to the client . No money is involved in providing references. All of us regularly come across such instances in our personal / business/ office dealings. Nothing wrong in providing references in the interest of proper contract execution. But it is a crime to make money thro agents.
