Pledged shares do not tell the whole story as in the case of Deccan Chronicle where shares were on lien and not on pledge. And one fine day Karvy found the shares it had on lien were on pledge to someone else 🙂
I am not sure if SEBI changed the disclosure requirement to show all encumbered shares and not just pledged ones.
Looking at the treacherous waters an Indian investor has to navigate, and still survive a modern day Euclid on asked to prove God’s existence will say, “Indian investors have survived and hence God exists”
