What was that again?

“It is the duty of every thoughtful Indian not to marry. In case he is helpless in regard to marriage, he should abstain from sexual intercourse with his wife.”wrote Mahatma Gandhi

“We both may be killed by the Muslims and must put our purity to the ultimate test, so that we know that we are offering the purest of sacrifices, and we should now both start sleeping naked.”-77 year old Mahatma Gandhi told his 18 year old grand niece Manu

These are quotes from a writer who wants to sensationalize Gandhi’s behaviour and sell his book. There are enough number of Indians who interacted and worked with Gandhi during freedom struggle. If he was as maniac as mentioned by this writer, I am sure he would not have become such a great leader.

Publishing of these quotes in this website is in bad taste.

Ramakrishna,

These are facts about Gandhi’s life as corroborated by the newspapers of that time as well as Acharya Kriplani’s autobiography.

These do not seek to demonize Gandhi, rather they humanise him.

GD Birla once said that Indians can never write good biographies as they love to do hagiographies.Your reaction indicates that you would rather treat Gandhi as a God instead as a human.

I would like to narrate one more incident about Gandhi which may surprise you. (source:Vinay Bharat Ram’s autobiography)

Vinay Bharat Ram’s (of the Shriram group) parents went to seek Gandhiji’s blessings soon after marriage.Gandhiji looked at the decked up bride and said “What did you bring for me?”The bride did not understand. Her father in law did.He asked her to remove all her jewellery and give it to Gandhi.

Imagine the media furore if a modern politician were to do the same today !
